In a big win, President Mohamed Muizzu's party, which is friendly to China, won by a lot in the recent elections in the Maldives. This means they'll have a lot of power in the country's parliament. The party, called the People’s National Congress (PNC), got 66 out of the first 86 seats declared. The other big party, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), didn't do well at all, only getting about a dozen seats.
President Muizzu and his group really want to work closely with China. They've been making plans to build lots of apartments on new land, which some people don't like. They're also giving important jobs to companies from China. Plus, they're sending Indian troops home, who were helping keep an eye on the Maldives’ waters.
The Maldives is in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and both China and India want to be friends with them. China is getting more powerful in the area, which is making India worried. India has always been close to the Maldives, but now it might not be as close.
This election shows that the Maldives is moving towards China and away from India. It's a big change that could affect the whole area around the Indian Ocean.
